Russia suspends the key provisions of double taxation agreement with France and other “unfriendly” states

On August 8, 2023, the Russian president issued a decree No. 585 (hereinafter – the Decree[1]) which unilaterally suspends – from the Russian counterparty – most of material provisions of agreements on avoidance of double taxation (hereinafter – the DTA) entered into between Russia and the so-called unfriendly states that have imposed sanctions against Russia. The action affects 38 DTAs, including the one entered with France of 26 November 1996

Deadline for EU citizens and EU companies to close the accounts in sanctioned Russian banks – August 26, 2023

PJSC Rosbank, JSC Tinkoff Bank and JSC Alfa-Bank were on the low sanctions list concluded by the Union in relation to the Russian Federation. The 10th package of EU sanctions provides for freezing the assets of these banks in the EU and disconnecting them from the SWIFT system, and also imposes an obligation on EU resident individuals and legal entities to close accounts in data banks no later than August 26, 2023.
